Scouts from troop, team and crew 718 backpacked into the Sheep Mountain wilderness in July to pan for gold, fish and hike. The panning was fine, the fishing was great and the hiking was awesome. Here is the group of boy scouts and leaders. Below is Swan Rock located just inside the wilderness boundaries. Upon reaching the Bridge To Nowhere, we took a long break before heading to Iron Fork camp.
Scoutmaster John, assistant scoutmasters Dale and Bryce had a great time. We joined with venture leader Dave and his gang just past the Bridge to Nowhere. We did some swimming in Iron Fork, fished the East Fork of the San Gabriel and panned some gold out of both creeks.

We ran into two small herds of bighorn sheep by the river as it was very hot and I am sure they were watering. The smaller consisted of a male, two females and one yearling. The larger had a male with a very impressive set of horns, 8 females and two young,
We ran into a small rattler near the middle of the trail by Rattlesnake Canyon (imagine that). It was not very aggressive but we gave it a wide berth.
