On Saturday, March 29 six scouts and two leaders from troop 718 spent a great morning at Doane Pond on Palomar Mountain working on the Fishing Merit Badge.
As part of the merit badge, all the scouts had to catch and kill one fish, then clean, cook
and eat the fish. We accomplished this by the Scouts preparing their fish, then mesquite grilling them right next to the pond. We then ate the fish with our fingers and enjoyed a delicous waterside feast.
Scoutmaster John, assistant Scoutmaster Bryce, Tanner, Connor, Conor, Wesley, Devon and Cesar left early in the morning to test the waters for planted rainbow trout. It was chilly with frost on the ground when we arrive before sunup. There were deer and wild turkeys in the meadow.
Using green and rainbow power bait, we quickly had a few fish on the stringer. Devon, Cesar and Tanner led us off in good fashion.
Assistant Scoutmaster Bryce had the best luck for the day catching 4 but this big one got away 
by breaking the leader.
