Troop 718 completed it's model rocket building experience with a campout at Ocotillo Wells and a massive rocket launch on the 1st and 2nd of February.
After two scout meetings of hard effort to complete their rockets, the time had finally come to see of they actually flew.
Friday evening was chilly and windy. The scouts learned a valuable lesson about checking equipment when they discovered their tent had no stakes and was impossible to erect properly in the 30 to 40 MPH winds blowing from the west.
After a good foil dinner, some smores, and a fireside, the winds died down enough to get the tent upright and all retired for a restful slumber.
Tanner was the cook and organized the boys to prepare French toast with ham and bacon.
The adults enjoyed eggs, sausages, hash browns and pancakes.
We had many rockets from Scoutmaster John's collection as well as Assistant Scoutmaster Bryce's Dayglow Orange Big Bertha.
All the rockets flew very well. A few crashed and we were able to do some onsight repairs. We lost no rockets during the event!
The winner of the best flyer was Devon. The best looking rocket went to Connor.
